MORE THAN
DRIPS ON
A COVER
The cover of this brochure is a detail from
a large-format action painting collectively
composed by DCR members in the winter
of 2018. The idea originated in the DCR
community and took its cue from the “drip
paintings” by American painter Jackson
Pollock. This unique team event gave rise
to dialogue and complex interactions,
a dynamic closely related to the topic of
the doctoral program.
In the beginning, it is a white canvas:
nobody knows what might emerge on the
blank surface. The pioneers start placing
the first accents with dribbles of paint.
As things develop, recognizable structures
and creative stories become apparent. Soon
it can be seen that all individual contribu-
tions act in concert. The artists engage in
a dialogue, responding to each other as one
approach inspires another and flows into
a symphonic piece of art – something that
would not exist without the individual marks.
Despite – or perhaps precisely because of
their diversity – the artists create something
unique that continues to follow its own
playful logic.
