                                                                              The cover of this brochure is a detail from
                                                                              a large-format action painting collectively
                                                                              composed by DCR members in the winter
                                                                              of 2018. The idea originated in the DCR
                                                                              community and took its cue from the “drip
                                                                              paintings” by American painter Jackson
                                                                              Pollock. This unique team event gave rise
                                                                              to dialogue and complex interactions,
                                                                              a dynamic closely related to the topic of
                                                                              the doctoral program.

                                                                              In the beginning, it is a white canvas:
                                                                              nobody knows what might emerge on the
                                                                              blank surface. The pioneers start placing
                                                                              the first accents with dribbles of paint.
                                                                              As things develop, recognizable structures
                                                                              and creative stories become apparent. Soon
                                                                              it can be seen that all individual contribu-
                                                                              tions act in concert. The artists engage in
                                                                              a dialogue, responding to each other as one
                                                                              approach inspires another and flows into
                                                                              a symphonic piece of art – something that
                                                                              would not exist without the individual marks.
                                                                              Despite – or perhaps precisely because of
                                                                              their diversity – the artists create something
                                                                              unique that continues to follow its own
                                                                              playful logic.
